Optimize your linkedin profile

Your LinkedIn profile represents a more complete (and interactive) resume. You can include it as a link in an email or your cover letter when you apply for jobs.

LinkedIn is also the most important work-related social media platform out there so having a visible profile can help you connect with the right people and help you land a job.

LinkedIn, like Google, works based on keywords! So if a company is looking for IT Talent, the first thing that they will have in mind to search for are the technologies. So it’s important to optimize it based on those keywords, the more times these keywords appear on your profile, the better positioned will be.

Instructions

Please read carefully the following task list and mark the checkboxes as you complete them:

Profile picture

• Add a neat professional headshot, a simple background

Headline

• Use this section as a headline, add the title of the position you are applying for. If you are or are about to graduate from the bootcamp, put your certification as a title!
• Add your skills and main programming languages in your job title

Make an image that contains the following:

• Tech-related Background.
• Add a job title: Software Developer, Data Analyst, or Cybersecurity Analyst.
• Mention your top 3 tech skills.
• You can add your contact information

Summary

• Use the information you have in your resume, through storytelling expand a little more, and tell us about yourself.
• Talk about your background/experiences, what you want to specialize in, what your strengths are, major professional successes (if you have one), etc.
• Express a little about yourself. Your character, interests, hobbies, previous jobs, or countries you have lived in. Be real and imagine the best of yourself.
• List your skills (it's a great opportunity for optimization!).
• Include a call to action (i.e.: Let's connect and take our ideas to the next level!).
• At the bottom. Select the top 5 skills you want to highlight in your profile, focusing on technologies, programming languages, and frameworks.)

Featured Section

• Go to your profile – Add profile section – Recommended - Add Featured – click on the + sign – Add a Link - Paste your GitHub URL – Website Type – Portfolio. You can see the steps here.
• You can also add blogs you have written related to coding.
• Include side projects or personal websites.

Experience

• Focus on the last 3 work experiences.
• It's not about the quantity but the quality of the information.
• Use the information you mention in your CV, the professional experience section, always focusing on your transferable skills.
• Mention your job duties in bullets from most important to least important.
• Select your skills and link them, especially those that are transferable.

Education

• If you don’t have much professional experience, this section is vital.
• Add your formal education (high school, college degrees, bootcamps, etc).
• Add any other educational experience you have.
• Select your skills and link them.

Skills and Endorsement

• Add skills related to your area of expertise.

Recommendations

• Having public recommendations is next level!
• You could request for a recommendation to: your teacher, your project mate, someone at your last job.
• Request them to include certain keywords that can speak about your abilities as a Software Developer, cybersecurity analyst, or data scientist.

• Post about open source projects you collaborated on.
• Licenses or courses you finished.
• Personal projects and technical details.

• It’s important youreach more than 500 connections! Be strategic about building your network (but not too picky either). Consider connecting with:
  • Profiles with similar certifications to you.
  • IT Recruiters
  • Experts in your area.
  • Tech bloggers.
  • People who attended the same events you did.
  • People who work at companies of your interest.
