What Is Manus AI? Manus 2.0 Automations, Studio, and Cue

Manus AI is a general agent for multi-step work. Manus 2.0 adds Cascade, event-triggered Automations, Studio, Cloud Computer, and Cue. See when it fits vs Dots or Muse.

Manus AI is a general AI agent product that plans and runs work for you — research, docs, sites, video, games, and event-triggered automations — instead of stopping at a chat answer. Manus 2.0, announced on the Manus blog around September 28, 2026, rebuilds that product around a new Cascade harness, Automations, Studio, Cloud Computer, and a separate Cue app for personal agents.

If you keep hearing "Manus" and want a plain answer — can it take real work off your plate this week? — start here. This is for owners and non-technical pros, not a feature dump for engineers.

What Manus AI is now (2.0 in plain English)

On Introducing Manus 2.0, Manus describes 2.0 as a new architecture and product set, not a small version bump. The foundation is Cascade, Manus's in-house agent harness. Cascade keeps a project light at the start and brings specialized capabilities only when the work needs them, so a brief, a page, a video, and an automation can stay part of one connected project.

Manus publishes its own single-configuration claim for Cascade: 23.2% fewer tokens, 28.2% less time, and 32% lower cost than its previous system. These are Manus's own numbers from one tested configuration, not an independent benchmark.

Manus 2.0 is available on web, desktop, and mobile per that post. Cue is a separate early-access app (invite code; Manus listed MEETCUE for a limited early pool).

Automations: work that starts when something happens

Older Manus scheduled tasks only started at a set time. Automations in 2.0 can also start when something changes in a connected service. Manus lists triggers such as a new email, a change in ad performance, a calendar event, a Slack message, or a Notion update. You describe what to watch and what to do next in one prompt; Manus sets up and runs the workflow.

That is the owner job most people mean when they ask whether Manus can "take work off my plate": recurring ops that should fire without you remembering to open the chat.

Studio, Cloud Computer, and Computer Use

Manus Studio is the upgraded desktop workspace for people and AI. Manus says Studio pulls in only the tools a project needs (documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, slides, websites, code, games, video). New professional environments called out for 2.0:

  • Video Editor — timeline access to clips, images, text, motion graphics, and audio so you can swap a song or drop in your own footage instead of regenerating the whole video. Aimed at short product ads (about 30 to 60 seconds), AI UGC, tutorials, and similar. Alchemy mode has Manus take creative direction using video and code generation together; you can still fine-tune on the timeline.
  • Game Dev — templates plus edit panels for assets, code, movement, and scenes; publish as a website or enable multiplayer via a Cloud Computer.

Cloud Computer is a purchasable dedicated environment for projects that need to stay up when your laptop closes — for example always-on automations or multiplayer game servers.

Remote Control / Computer Use lets you ask Manus to work in a visible workspace on a connected, authorized computer (files, browser, apps you approve), including from your phone. You stay in control of what it can do.

Cue: agents with their own email and phone number

Cue is a standalone Manus app for personal agents on phone and desktop. Per the 2.0 post, each agent can get its own email, phone number, wallet, and computer so it can message, pay within a budget you set, and finish work on its own machine. You can put several agents in a group chat with a shared goal. Cue was in early access with an invite code at announcement; iOS was pending App Store review.

Treat Cue as early access. Capabilities and invite supply can change; re-check Manus before you plan a team process around it.

When Manus beats ChatGPT Dots or Muse — and when it is overkill

Honest fit check for non-coders:

Manus is a fit when you want one agent product that can own multi-step projects (docs to video to site), run event-triggered Automations, and optionally keep a Cloud Computer always on. Studio and Cue are for people who want creation plus background agents, not only a chat summary.

ChatGPT Dots (OpenAI's agent-style surface inside ChatGPT) is often enough when your work already lives in ChatGPT and you want lighter teammate-style help without buying into a separate Manus stack. See our guide to ChatGPT Dots.

Muse for Small Business (Meta) is a better first look when your connectors and approval gates are Meta-centered and you mainly need owner handoffs with ask-before-publish/send/spend. See Muse for Small Business.

Manus is overkill when you only need occasional answers, you cannot tolerate credit-based usage surprises, or you are not ready to connect email/Slack/ads. User reports on the open web often complain about credits and cancellation friction; treat those as user reports, not Manus marketing, and check current billing yourself.
