Claude Motion turns your report, chart or idea into a short animated explainer you can edit and download as an MP4, and Claude Dashboards turns a plain-language question about your company's data into a live dashboard. Anthropic put both into beta on October 8, 2026. You don't need to write code or SQL for either one.
Here's the short version. Dashboards answers "what do our numbers say right now?" Motion answers "how do I explain this so people get it in 30 seconds?" Below you'll see what each one does, which Claude plans include them, and when to use them instead of a regular doc or slide deck.
What are Claude Motion and Claude Dashboards?
Both are new kinds of artifacts. An artifact is the finished thing Claude makes for you inside a chat, like a document, a deck or a design, that you can keep editing.
- Claude Dashboards connects to where your company keeps its data and builds a dashboard from a question you type. Each chart shows the query behind it and when its data was last refreshed, and the dashboard stays current as the data changes.
- Claude Motion builds a short animation from your prompt that plays like a video. You can tweak it in an editor or ask Claude to change it, then download it as an MP4 file.
Anthropic announced both in its Dashboards and Motion launch post. The same post took Claude Docs, Slides and Design out of beta and put them on every plan, including Free.
Claude Dashboards: ask your company's data a question
Think about the last time you needed a number from your company's data. You probably filed a ticket with the data team, or waited for someone who knows SQL. Dashboards is Anthropic's answer to that wait.
You connect a data platform such as Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks or Snowflake. Then you ask a question in plain language. Claude writes the queries, builds the charts and keeps them updated. It also works with your other connectors, so you could ask for a dashboard of your Salesforce opportunities.
Anthropic says Dashboards works best for quick, exploratory questions, like how this week's signups compare with last month's. It isn't meant to replace your analytics team. When a question needs deeper work, you can send the dashboard to tools like Amplitude, Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, PostHog or Sigma and keep going there, according to the launch post.
The part we like most: you can click any number to see the query that produced it, or ask Claude to explain it. That's how you check the work before you share it.
Claude Motion: turn a report into a short animation
Some ideas land better when they move. A pricing comparison, a quarter's growth, the steps of a new process. Usually they end up as one more static slide.
Motion lets you ask for the animation itself. Anthropic's own examples are a 30-second explainer of a quarterly report for an all-hands, motion added to a chart in a board deck, and a product walkthrough for customer onboarding.
Here's what surprises most people. Motion doesn't generate video footage. Claude writes code that animates your own text, charts, shapes and images, so you can change any word, number or timing. That also means no AI-generated people show up in your explainer. If you want to polish it further, Anthropic lists Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Luma AI and Runway among the tools you can open it in.
Who can use them: Claude plans at a glance
Plan access is where most of the confusion is, so here it is in one table. It comes from Anthropic's Help Center guides for Dashboards and Motion, checked October 9, 2026.
| Feature | Free | Pro and Max | Team | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Dashboards (beta) | No | Yes | Yes | Yes, once an owner turns it on |
| Claude Motion (beta) | No | No | Yes, on by default | Yes, once an owner turns it on |
| Claude Docs, Slides and Design | Yes | Yes | Yes | On by default from October 15, 2026 |
On Enterprise plans, Dashboards and Motion are off by default. An owner turns them on in Organization settings, under Artifacts, and can limit them to specific groups. If you're on a company plan and don't see them, that setting is the first thing to ask about.
Dashboards, Motion or Docs and Slides: which one should you use?
All of these live in the same Claude chat, so the real question is what you need at the end.
| You need | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A number or trend from company data, kept up to date | Dashboards | It queries live data and shows its work |
| To explain an idea or result in under a minute | Motion | Movement holds attention better than another slide |
| A written plan, brief or report | Docs | Words carry the detail |
| A deck to present or send | Slides | Exports to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides |
A common combo: build the dashboard first, then ask Motion to animate the one chart that matters for your all-hands. You explore in Dashboards and explain in Motion.
How to try them this week
- Check your plan. Dashboards needs Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise. Motion needs Team or Enterprise.
- For Dashboards, connect one data source. Start with something you already know well, so you can tell if the answer looks right.
- Ask a narrow question. Anthropic's own example is "Build a dashboard of this quarter's revenue by region."
- Click a number and read the query. If it counts the wrong thing, tell Claude what to fix.
- For Motion, start from a finished report. Try "Animate how our pricing plans compare for the sales kickoff," then edit the wording and timing.
- Share only after a human check. Claude makes the first version, and you decide what goes out.
What to watch out for
- It's a beta. Features and plan access can change. Recheck the Help Center before you build a team process on it.
- Access follows your permissions. Claude only reaches the data your connectors and your account can reach.
- Check the numbers. A clean chart can still answer a slightly different question than the one you meant. Reading the query takes a minute and saves an awkward meeting.
- Health data stays out. Anthropic's artifacts admin guide says Docs, Slides, Design, Dashboards and Motion aren't covered by its Business Associate Agreement, so keep protected health information out of them.
